Spicy Competitions and Challenges We’ve Found
Last updated August 25, 2026
Hawt Heads wants the spicy world to get bigger.
More sauce makers. More restaurants experimenting with serious heat. More pepper growers. More festivals. More food challenges. More competitions. More people discovering spicy food and finding their own level of heat.
So we are keeping track of the spicy competitions and challenges we find.
Some we are going to.
Some we want to go to.
Some are simply too good not to share.
Don’t See Yours?
Run a spicy food competition? Have a restaurant challenge? Organize a pepper eating contest? Make a hot sauce you want reviewed? Have something ridiculously hot that Hawt Heads needs to try?
Email us at HAWTHEADS(at)GMAIL.COM.
Send us the name, location, date, rules, and the official website or social page.
We want to know about it.
Always confirm directly with the restaurant or event organizer before traveling. Dates, rules, locations, and challenges change.
Competition or Challenge?
We use these words differently.
A competition puts you against other people.
Maybe everyone is eating increasingly hotter peppers until only 1 person is left. Maybe you are trying to eat more wings than everyone else. Maybe restaurants are competing for the best wings. Maybe sauce makers are competing for an award.
There is a winner.
A challenge puts you against the food.
The restaurant or organizer gives you a fixed set of rules. Finish the wings. Beat the clock. Survive the heat. Complete the afterburn. Do not drink anything. Whatever insanity somebody came up with.
You either beat it or it beats you.
Some events have both.
Those are usually the fun ones.
2026
National Buffalo Wing Festival
August 29 and 30, 2026
Buffalo, New York
Competition
The National Buffalo Wing Festival returns to Sahlen Field for its 25th anniversary.
This is much more than restaurants selling wings. The official competition lineup includes the US Chicken Wing Eating Championship, Amateur Chicken Wing Eating, the XXX Hot Wing Eating Contest, College Wing Eating Competition, Bobbing for Wings, an Amateur Creative Sauce Contest, and additional competitions.

Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival
August 30, 2026
Austin, Texas
Competition
The long running Austin hot sauce festival brings together commercial sauce makers, restaurants, and individual competitors.
This one is primarily a sauce competition rather than an eating challenge, but it belongs here because growing the spicy scene means recognizing the people actually making the heat too.
Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival
North Carolina Hot Sauce Contest and Festival
September 11 and 12, 2026
Oxford, North Carolina
Competition
This one gives us both sides of the spicy world.
There is a hot sauce competition for sauce makers and the Bailey Farms Pepper Eating Contest for people who would rather consume the problem directly.
The pepper eating contest starts at 1 PM. Competitors eat increasingly hot North Carolina chile peppers until there is a winner. The current prize is $1,000.

Bailey Farms Pepper Eating Contest
Wabash Valley Pepper Fest and Hot Sauce Expo
September 19, 2026
Terre Haute, Indiana
Competition
This might be one of the most loaded spicy competition schedules we have found.
The 2026 event includes a League of Fire professional pepper eating belt match, Champion of Fire Hot Wing Eating Contest, Taco Takedown, amateur pepper eating contest, Bloody Mary Hot Shots Contest, CAPS Hot Sauce Awards, CAPS Salsa Awards, and a Cajun cookoff.
Basically, somebody looked at a normal pepper festival and decided it needed substantially more suffering.
We approve.

Cluckin Right Spicy Challenge
September 25, 2026 at 8 PM
South Carolina
Challenge
Hawt Heads received direct confirmation of this event.
We have not found a public event page containing the complete challenge details yet, so this one stays marked as directly confirmed rather than publicly verified.
Confirm with Cluckin Right before traveling.
Tennessee Hot Sauce Expo
October 24 and 25, 2026
Nashville, Tennessee
Challenges
Welcome to the Stage of Doom.
The published schedule includes Doughnuts of Death, Spicy Tacos of Hell, Burning BBQ Pork, the Slaytanic Burrito Challenge, Chicken Wings of DOOM, Bobbing for Reaper Peppers, Pizza of DOOM, and the Mother Clucker Challenge.
This is exactly the kind of event Hawt Heads was created for.
CASI Terlingua International Chili Championship
November 3 through 7, 2026
Terlingua, Texas
Competition
The 59th annual CASI Terlingua International Chili Championship is a 5 day celebration built around competitive chili.
Tuesday through Friday competitions are open to the public. Friday is especially relevant here because it includes traditional and nontraditional Buffalo Hot Wings competitions, salsa competitions, and beans.
Saturday is the qualified Terlingua International Chili Championship.
CASI Terlingua International Chili Championship
Original Terlingua International Championship Chili Cookoff
November 4 through 7, 2026
Terlingua, Texas
Competition
Yes, there are 2 major Terlingua chili championships happening in the same area at essentially the same time.
This is the other one.
The Original Terlingua International Championship Chili Cookoff traces its history to the famous 1967 Terlingua chili contest.
We are listing both because they are separate events run by separate organizations.

Hot Sauce Fest ATL
November 14, 2026
Atlanta, Georgia
Competition and Challenge
Hot Sauce Fest ATL returns to Atlantucky Brewing.
The festival includes the Spicy Dragon Awards for sauce makers and the Dragon’s Breath Challenge for people who prefer to make questionable decisions with their digestive systems.
Hawt Heads is also scheduled to be on the judging panel.
Charleston Wing Fest
November 22, 2026
Hanahan, South Carolina
Competition
Restaurants and food trucks compete for Charleston’s Best Wing.
Then things get hotter with the Scoville Showdown, where contestants work their way through increasingly hot wings.
The festival runs from 12 PM to 5 PM at Hanahan Amphitheater.

2027
National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show
March 5 through 7, 2027
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Spicy Food Industry Event and Competition
One of the biggest gatherings in the spicy food world returns to Sandia Resort and Casino.
The show advertises more than 200 exhibitors and more than 1,000 hot and spicy products.
It is also connected to the Scovie Awards, making this one particularly interesting for Hawt Heads because it brings the sauce industry, spicy products, and competition side together in 1 place.
National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show
Hilton Head Wingfest
March 20, 2027
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Competition
The official Wingfest site has confirmed March 20, 2027.
Full 2027 event details are not being released until January 2027, so we are not going to pretend that every 2026 contest automatically carries over.
Historically, Wingfest has included restaurant wing competition and an adult wing eating contest.
For now, the date is confirmed. The exact 2027 competition schedule is not.
On Our Radar
Hornbill Festival Naga King Chilli Eating Competition
December 1 through 10
Nagaland, India
Competition
This is the long game.
Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival regularly includes an open Naga King Chilli eating competition.
The festival itself traditionally runs from December 1 through 10, but we do not yet have an official 2026 date and time for the chilli eating competition itself.
So it goes on the radar rather than pretending we know something we do not.
Eventually Hawt Heads needs to be there.

Restaurant Challenges
Festivals and organized competitions are only half of this.
There are spicy restaurant challenges all over the country.
Wing challenges. Burritos. Curries. Burgers. Pizza. Noodles. Tacos. Peppers. Giant quantities of food covered in sauces that should probably require paperwork.
We are building that list too.
But there is a lot of outdated garbage online.
Restaurants close. Challenges disappear. Rules change. Heat levels change. Old articles stay online for years after the challenge is gone.
So before Hawt Heads lists a restaurant challenge as active, we want to confirm that the restaurant is still open and the challenge still exists.
When we confirm one, we will add the current rules and official restaurant link.
When Hawt Heads attempts one, we will also link our video and review.
Help Us Find the Heat
If we missed your competition, tell us.
If your restaurant has a spicy challenge, tell us.
If you are launching a challenge, tell us.
If you make hot sauce and want Hawt Heads to review it, tell us.
If you created something stupidly hot and think we need to eat it, definitely tell us.

There is room at the table.
We just want to make the table a hell of a lot bigger.
